New Release! The Battle of Ego

Dear Friends of the Chögyam Trungpa Institute,

The Digital Library is thrilled to release three new seminars exploring the nature of ego. In these talks, Chögyam Trungpa presents this multifaceted topic in an accessible and creative way, through vivid imagery, poetic storytelling, and interaction with the audience.

The Battle of Ego I, taught at Karmê Chöling in 1970, is centered around Trungpa Rinpoche’s fable about “the castle of ego” inspired by The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. He tells the fascinating story of the fortress of ego and how we can infiltrate and conquer it through meditation practice. In The Battle of Ego II, given aboard the houseboat of Zen teacher Alan Watts, Chögyam Trungpa illustrates the origin and chain reaction of ego, as well as meditation practice, discipline, compassion, and nonduality. The final seminar, The Battle of Ego III, taught in Los Angeles, is a clear and nuanced overview of the three-yana path. Three of these rich talks were published in Chögyam Trungpa’s book The Myth of Freedom, and one in The Future is Open.
